Laser Refractive Surgery
This can be done with corneal flap (LASIK) or without (surface ablation or PRK). Visual recovery & comfort are instantaneous with LASIK, while it takes about a week with PRK. However, thin corneas are better treated with PRK.
Have you heard of the New Femtosecond LASIK?
You can now have LASIK with thin, steep or flat cornea! The femtosecond LASIK is new way of lifting the corneal flap, without using a mechanical instrument or blade. The flap thickness can be modulated as necessary, allowing treatment even on thin corneas. Even higher refractive errors can be corrected. The flap is even and seals better. Flap-related complications are markedly reduced.

Implantable contact lens (ICL)
Shortsighted patients (myopia) with high errors (≥ 8.0 D) may not be suitable candidates for Laser refractive surgery. Also, patients with thin or irregular corneas can have ICL. Both spherical and astigmatic errors can be corrected. Their long-term safety is well established.
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
It’s the replacement of the clear crystalline lens with a multifocal intraocular lens. It provides permanent spectacle free clear vision for all distances. Usually performed in the mid-forties. High hyperopes with presbyopia are ideal candidates. As expected, there is no chance for cataract formation subsequent to this procedure.
